Joseph Sweet is an Author, artist, musician, poet from the
upstate NY community of Watertown.
Born at "The house of the Good Samaritan" hospital
in Watertown, he spent his childhood years in Black River up to the age of 9
when his parents moved to Sackets Harbor, NY, where he lived until the summer
after his graduation from Watertown High School in 1995.
After an altercation with his abusive Step father left him hospitalized
with a severed tendon in his right hand and lacerations in his neck and face,
homeless, he stayed with his grandmother in Watertown until he got back on his
feet and since then he has moved around from South Carolina to Florida and
finally settled back in Watertown NY.
Joseph first discovered his creative side when he was around
five or six with the desire to draw, then quickly discovered his musical talent
in the years following that. These things were quickly supported by his mother,
but by the age of eleven when he decided that he wanted to write fiction as
well, the adults in his life seemed to have grown bored with the novelty of all
of this creativity. Ridiculed and put down by those around him for what were
considered to be the pointless, futile endeavors of a dreamer with no future,
he still struggled to embrace his creative side, and though he occasionally
lost a battle or two, at the age of sixteen he once more took hold of that part
of himself and began seriously exploring it once again.
Unexplained medical problems made it difficult to hold a
job, but Joseph managed to find jobs here and there that supported his
creativity. He has done voice-overs and appeared in many commercials airing on
local tv stations and radio, worked in master control at a local TV station for
years editing and making and voicing commercials. After a while, however, as
medical issues became too severe, he finally gave in and pursued disability.
With no firm diagnosis from doctors as of yet, he is still fighting for that.
The inability to hold a normal job, however, has freed him up to pursue his
writing, art, and music, and the word is spreading amongst horror fans. Just
look at the reviews on amazon.com, as well as the fan site on fanpop.com for
proof of that.
In 2007, after deciding that he had been procrastinating for
much too long, his first short story collection, “Hell 101” was published. The
rest, as they say, is history.
Support a local author by purchasing a copy of his latest books
to the right, or watch for announcements of upcoming book signings.
